I chose Machiya Kamiumeya in Gion because of its proximity to Nishiki Market, which I was excited to explore. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the express check-in and check-out and free WiFi throughout the property. The convenience of these features made my stay even more enjoyable.

Room 101 was small, and the noise from the nearby beds and washing machine made it difficult to have a peaceful stay. the hotel's location was not ideal for exploring Kyoto as the closest metro station and convenience store were a 10-15 minute walk away.

We thoroughly enjoyed rooms with all required amenities. Location: the hotel was close enough to where restaurants of all types dotted along the river banks, and bus stops, Lawson convenience store and the historic area of Gion.

Traditional room with modern bathroom. Hot water needs to be turned on to work. Friendly and helpful staff who speak English well. Immaculately clean and neat. Conveniently located near restaurants and historical sites.

We loved the traditional Machiya style of the accommodation, with modern amenities and beautiful views of Japanese gardens in each room. As vegetarians and vegans, we appreciated the high-tech facilities that allowed us to prepare our own coffee and the helpful staff who offered local restaurant recommendations.

The Machiya Kamiumeya is my go-to place in Kyoto. The staff helped me plan my evenings during my first stay. With Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, an electric kettle, and a no-pets, no-smoking policy, it suits me perfectly. Can't wait to go back for Christmas!

I had a fantastic stay at this luxurious 4-star hotel. The location was perfect for me, situated in a quiet residential area. I enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet still within walking distance to all the main attractions. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, always ready to help with any request. The room amenities were top-notch, from the ironing facilities to the comfortable sitting area. I especially appreciated the in-room safe and tea and coffee facilities. The room itself was beautifully designed and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay, including a flat-screen TV, carpeted floor, and a cozy bed.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and comfortable stay. The staff are friendly, the location is quiet and residential, and the room amenities are superb.

Sky-high ceilings reminiscent of a traditional hibukuro chimney provided a breathtaking atmosphere throughout my stay. Each room showcased striking Japanese artwork, transporting me to another world. The view from Kiyomizu Temple was like a mesmerizing painting that captured the entire city.
